Customizable Seeds Confirmed

After a small amount of discussion on the Blockhead Forums about the implementation of seeds and their works, majicDave (AKA David Frampton, developer of the Blockheads) stepped in and said short but wonderful message.

It started with a post by well-known forum member Ronnie, who pointed out that Frampton did not necessarily confirm that we would be able to choose a seed for a certain world. The OK majicDave tweeted recently could have been simply saying seeds could be added, since world generation seeds have actually existed for some time (as seen in the server logs of world generation). Ronnie also supported the possibility of his theory by stating that "emiljunior did not ask for players tobe able to manipulate the world seed, although he very likely intended to do so." Ronnie said this simply to say everyone's hype could be misplaced and they may end up disappointed.

To follow that up, another well-known forum member, Skeeve, brought up 3 meanings of the OK Dave had tweeted. The first was a "sarcastic OK," meaning "yeah right ... good luck with that". The second, which people had been assuming and hoping for, was a "teaser OK," maning "I've done ... thst in version 1.6.1." Skeeve said this was what he too was hoping for. Then, the third possibility Skeeve noted was that we all could have completely misunderstood and the OK could have been about something completely unrelated to seeds, and Dave could have been saying "OK" to the remainer of emiljunior's tweet which thanked him for the game and jetpacks.

Because of these two posts, Dave made a post in the thread. "I can confim," he began. "There are a few caveats, you can't set it in every world for every situation, but there will be an option in 1.6.1 to set a custom world seed for some new worlds. No more details for now." The post also confirmed that the next update will indeed be majorly a bug fix update (1.6.1), not one full of new content (1.7).

New Features

Recently, on twitter, David Frampton (Blockheads developer majicDave) has announced and given peaks to brand new features he is working on in the next update for the Blockheads.

Frampton has said a fair amount about this version, but the most important two things came with pictures, though something was said in a comment too.

The first tweet included a picture of a screen showing world generation customization, including things like selecting no oceans, setting the rainfall to "very dry", and generating the world with more plants.
In the comments of that tweet, Frampton stated that these worlds are for "servers only," and "[they will have] no portal chests or time crystal blocks."

The second tweet included what Frampton called an "ocean world," which he stated "could be rather challenging." The image was of a large map of an entire Blockheads world in which there were only two small pieces of land, and the rest of the world was submerged in water.

In the comments to that tweet, someone identified as "Paul McCoocker" asked if Frampton would "implement world generation seeds," to which Frampton's simple, short reply was "OK :)"

We can only wait to see what the rest of this update brings, but we all know it will be wonderful.

Turns out we were wrong :/

It looks like we were wrong about The Blockheads not dying. At the time, we debunked MGN's proposition as being 'clickbait' and that MajicDave wouldn't be going anywhere since he never confirmed anything. Now he has.

I'm pretty sure that you've read this blog post already, but if you haven't, check it out.
Nobody is certain what this means for The Blockheads, even though a month has passed since he 'semi-retired'. Currently, the game is for sale to any developers who want to continue development of the game. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any developers are interested. MajicDave has hinted about a 1.6.1 uptade to fix some bugs (e.g. Physical usable Time Crystals, many duplication glitches and other major expliots). Until then, servers will be ridden with duplicated riches and infinite time crystals. People are even selling them in shops! Let's all hope that a 1.6.1 update comes soon.

The Blockheads isn't dying, and here's why:

Before reading this post, it might be worth checking out J Lav's 'Is The Blockheads Going To Die?' article.
So, now that we've all calmed down, let's have a look at some of the evidence to prove that The Blockheads is safe. These are taken from David Frampton (MajicDave)'s Twitter page in reverse chronological order (newest to oldest).

The first tweet was posted very recently, most likely in reply to the #savetheblockheads campaign:
Another tweet is from the 24th November, just after Dave started working on the prototype for his new game (He was at the stage of a papercraft icosphere):
The next one isn't specifically about the new game or development ceasing, but it's an interesting thought about how long The Blockheads will be around for:

This one's from way back in February 2014:

Even in January 2014, MajicDave was certain that his game would be a long-term success:

If that's not enough evidence for you, read this tweet from December 3rd 2013:

Since that tweet we've had 1.5, 1.5.1 and 1.6. This may show that Dave has so many ideas for the game he just can't stop making new stuff!

But that's not all. We've scoured through every tweet MajicDave has ever made, through all the dusty shelves and boxes and found this ancient tweet from 11th December 2012, before the game was even released:

If all this evidence isn't enough for you, then I suggest you flee to a tibetan mountain and meditate until 1.7 is released.
oh yeah, there's bacon too!

Is The Blockheads Going To Die?

The short answer to this is simply no.

The longer one involves twitter, clickbait, and a lot of confusion.

On the 27th of December 2014 the following was tweeted as a reply to another player asking about majicDaves new game.

This tweet was caught by someone at MGN and the following video was posted:

MajicDave said he wasn't sure if/when he'll work on more new content. This is normal, 1.6 only recently came out so it wouldn't be expected for Dave to start working on 1.7 immediately. Dave also said that he'll keep maintaining the game, which means the Cloud and bug fixes are definitely being continued.

The video tried to start a campaign, with people tweeting "#SaveTheBlockheads" to @majicDave.

There were only four tweets under the tag as of the time of writing, because the video is quite recent.
MajicDave then tweeted this:

The main point of this is, unless something is completely comfirmed by majicDave, The Blockheads isn't going anywhere and a small reply to another persons tweet doesn't mean something is definitely true. There isn't anything to worry about yet, and if The Blockheads was stopping then Dave would have clearly stated it, instead of giving a vague-ish reply to another tweet.
